Major Floods and Tropical Cyclones over Bangladesh: Clustering from ENSO Timescales

چکیده

The present study analyzed major floods and tropical cyclones (TCs) over Bangladesh on El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) timescales. geographical location, low almost flat topography have introduced as one of the most vulnerable countries world. is highly to extreme hazard events like which are impacted by ENSO. ENSO mainly a event, but its impact global. Niño (La Niña) represents warm (cold) phase cycle. Rainfall cyclonic disturbances data been used for period 70 years (1948–2017) compared with corresponding observations Southern Index. Result shows that flood occurred during monsoon period, them La Niña condition, consistent historical archives in Bangladesh. Synoptic conditions these well matched condition. On other hand, TC cases either pre-monsoon or post-monsoon season. under neutral (developing Niña, climatology studies favorable more intense TCs Bay Bengal.

Tropical cyclones and floods in Fiji

Daily flow records, rainfall data and tropical cyclone maps during 19701998 are used to document the impact of tropical cyclones (TCs) on floods in the Rewa River system, Viti Levu, Fiji. Floods are large, brief, isolated events caused by TCs and non-TC tropical rainstorms. More floods are caused by tropical rainstorms than by TCs, but TC floods are larger. The log Pearson Type III distribution...

Temporal clustering of tropical cyclones and its ecosystem impacts.

Tropical cyclones have massive economic, social, and ecological impacts, and models of their occurrence influence many planning activities from setting insurance premiums to conservation planning. Most impact models allow for geographically varying cyclone rates but assume that individual storm events occur randomly with constant rate in time. This study analyzes the statistical properties of A...

Effect of ENSO and the MJO on Western North Pacific Tropical Cyclones

Prior work has suggested that Rossby wave accumulation in the lower troposphere may be an important mechanism for the development of synoptic-scale disturbances in the western north Pacific in northern summer. This work examines the intraseasonal and interannual variability of wave accumulation by computing the barotropic wave activity flux divergence at 850 hPa for different phases of the Madd...

Tropical Cyclones Features Inferred from Sar Images

Due to relatively small amount of in situ data available for the open oceans, particularly during extreme events, remote sensing techniques take an important role in the retrieval of geophysical information under such conditions. This study is based on a dataset of wide swath Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images (400 km x 400 km coverage), acquired by the European ENVISAT satellite, to observe...

Clouds in Tropical Cyclones

Clouds within the inner regions of tropical cyclones are unlike those anywhere else in the atmosphere. Convective clouds contributing to cyclogenesis have rotational and deep intense updrafts but tend to have relatively weak downdrafts. Within the eyes of mature tropical cyclones, stratus clouds top a boundary layer capped by subsidence. An outward-sloping eyewall cloud is controlled by adjustm...
